I’m glad I’m not the only one with this opinion. I stopped playing the demo part way through, it wasn’t jiving with me, and it seemed more of a chore to play than pleasure. I guess the characters clothing and hair styles make sense if it is a time loop story, but that makes me want to stay away from it even more.

Your impression is correct.  Most of the time kids would run up to me saying the classic phrase: “This is a pen!” when what they were holding was clearly something else.

Back in the day you had to worry a bit (I ruined a cd player I had bought in Japan, but my MD player is still kicking)/ Now days, especially with USB powered/Charged things, you probably don’t need to worry. My PS Vita is a Japanese version and I’ve never had any problems.
