Hard disagree. Yeah, Michael Dougherty clearly put more love and care into characterizing the monsters than the people, but I think the movie is better for it. It kinda sags in the middle, but that’s because we needed a scene of King Ghidorah just trashing DC.

I’m guessing the microphone looks like a tree of sorts. The swarm is following the queen, who lands on a tree or a branch once she gets tired. I’m guessing they’re just trying to stay off the ground, away from predators. I’m not sure what you can do to keep them away.
