Ok, I get what your saying. I might be conflating Kyle Chandlers performance, which is pretty campy, with how his character is written, which is serious and kinda dry.
Camp is going to have a certain amount of bad writing, no matter what. It’s inherent to the goofiness of it. As far as the writing in the movie goes, there wasn’t anything in the movie that I found particularly awful, aside from maybe a few one-liners.

I’m guessing the microphone looks like a tree of sorts. The swarm is following the queen, who lands on a tree or a branch once she gets tired. I’m guessing they’re just trying to stay off the ground, away from predators. I’m not sure what you can do to keep them away.
