You’re right. Most rom-coms either are completely chaste or start with a fling that turns into love. This one had the physical relationship develop alongside with the romantic in a way that a lot of people can absolutely relate.

The relationship between the two was largely what made it work for me. The family was hilarious but I really liked how mature and undramatic the relationship between the two of them was demonstrated. In my opinion, we don’t see that often enough. 

Exactly. The woman I was living with at a time parents were from Mexico and El Salvador and their family were very much like the Portokalos’. It was eerie for us both how much we recognized.
