Unfortunately for them, I don’t reciprocate those feelings. But I seriously think the mission was easy, charming and different from every other mission I had played until then.

Let me clarify. I used bananas and killed everyone when they weren’t looking.

Utterly excellent write up. One small quibble: I believe the Reapers were the creators of the Citadel and the mass relays, no? Or is that venturing too close to spoiler territory?

Ok, I’m pretty sure that it was the Reapers that made the mass effect relays and the citadel not the Protheans. They built it so that races like the Protheans would advance in ways that the reapers could predict.

Correction and also Spoilers for Mass Effect 3:

Slight change, in number one everyone assumes that the Protheans were indeed the ones who created the mass effect relays/citadel/etc, but I’m pretty sure at the end of it (or definitely during number 2 somewhere) it’s revealed that, no, they were just the latest in a loooooong line of ones to stumble across it

Its not about a quota. Don’t you stop and ask yourself why there’s such a disparity between male and female developers? Stretch it further even; a disparity of men and women in STEM fields? Its not just because women don’t like doing these things. There’s a very apparent social bias if you pay attention and spend time

Literally no one is suggesting what you’re saying. But it’s very telling that you assume that women and blacks aren’t as good as their male white counter parts.

I don’t expect everyone to have intimate knowledge of the workings of AAA video games, but come on — Mass Effect Andromeda was made by hundreds of people. Do you really think ONE person was responsible for all the animations? Subpar animation work can be the result of so so so many factors, including technology

But nobody is talking about quotas. We’re talking about summer camps and workshops for girls. Wouldn’t you agree that this is a great way to encourage increasing the number of women in the industry as opposed to having these top down quotas that you don’t like?

Just want to jump in here, it’s not female coders, it’s females in the game industry. The tech side of the game industry still has chronic problems.

Boys aren’t told they shouldn’t be coders or make games. Girls are. That’s the fucking problem.

I don’t think that’s what this is really about. It’s more about raising awareness to girls and showing them that this is something they can do (too). I don’t think this forces anyone to hire anyone.

In all honesty, what the fuck are you talking about? What is a situation where identity politics aren’t or shouldn’t be in the mix? They are always “in the mix” regardless of if people talk about them.

What happens is the person making the hiring decision, with no outside influence, will select the candidate most like themselves, not the most qualified candidate. You see this happening with resume experiments wherein the resumes are identical but one will be a man and the other will be a woman, or one will be a

“We need more women, just because” is the kind of straw man that lazy thinkers use when they want to convince people that they don’t have to do any intellectual work. It’s not “just because”, and it never has been. Women buy and play video games, and are participating significantly in the economic market for video

OK, except, as has been pointed out numerous times, Sarkeesian isn’t even close to being on the extreme.

Except they aren’t. There is nothing extreme about offering polite artistic criticism. I’m trying to figure out what extremism their is to be found in what Sarkeesian does. Yet you present Sarkeesian as the opposite extreme on some spectrum.

Ah, there it is. Ok. Look. Anita sarkeesian made a series of YouTube videos. She points out commonly used tropes. She urges developers to make their games more inclusive, so everyone can enjoy them. She has opinions on YouTube. None of those opinions involve slurs, derogative statements or death threats. She makes

Firstly, on person creating YouTube videos isn’t “forcing your views” or “enforcing forbidding” anything. Nobody is forced to watch the videos, and nobody is made to act on them.
