Outside of my discovering-Elvis-Costello phase, since I was also getting burned out on country radio at the time (largely due to declining airplay for female artists outside of Shania Twain, possibly LeAnn Rimes, and later Faith Hill), my taste tended to lean towards the Lilith Fair stuff — Suzanne Vega, Mary Chapin

Yep — by watching the ads and buying the advertised products. (Of course, a kid like Bart probably wouldn't have taken that into account; if he can watch something over the air without his parents having to pay for cable or whatever to see it, to him that would be "free".) :)

My sister had the Blur and Prodigy albums (as well as Oasis' 'Be Here Now'); the Blur one was easily my favorite. :)

I think he meant free for the people watching at home. (As for where the money comes from to make the shows and pay the salaries of the people who make them, that largely comes from ad revenue. This probably does a better job of explaining it than I could:

At the time I thought Bart made a good point regarding broadcast-network stuff (it just comes into your home over the air, and all you needed was a TV and an antenna); but yeah, especially now considering that the vast majority of shows people write and talk about these days are on basic cable, premium cable or

And in mine along with "…Poochie…" and "Lisa's Substitute." :'(

IMDb boards, we hardly knew ye… :(

I should look into that. :) I've recently started commenting on the "What's On Tonight" posts over in the 'pop culture' community…

Adios and R.I.P. Glen. :(

"Oh man, done, dang 'ol WHY?"

That would be my biggest hang-up about reviving this show — either having to recast Luanne, kill her off, or otherwise come up with a reason for her not to be there. :(

"Funny's all I've got — I mean LOOK at me!"

Agreed. :( I wish her peace and health, and hope she continues to get the help she needs…

Great album; I would say both it and 'I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got' are stone-cold classics. :)

Though 'The Full Monty' was my favorite of the BP nominees, I knew it didn't stand a chance and was pretty much lucky to be up there; so yeah, I would argue that LAC has held up better in terms of writing and acting (especially Guy Pearce and Russell Crowe — I may not have liked everything they've done since then, but

I would have to agree in retrospect (though 'Waiting for Guffman' is still my personal favorite, out of everything that came out that year).

I saw it when it first came out to review for my high school newspaper, and I seem to recall being somewhat impressed with it both as a mega-budget spectacle and a touching romance / tragedy; and I saw it once more at the dollar theater several months later, but otherwise I haven't had much desire to revisit it. :\

I remember having liked "What's the Frequency, Kenneth," "Strange Currencies" and (to a lesser extent) "Bang and Blame" at the time, but it took me well over a decade to warm up to the rest of it. "Crush With Eyeliner," "Tongue" and "Let Me In" are probably my favorite tracks now; I'm also partial to "King of Comedy"

Got my calamine lotion, baby! :D
