I think Kim means to emphasize the alien horror of the vampire here. The stranger or sociopath that doesn't quite fit in the world, no matter how much they try. A person stuck out of time.

For me this portrayal has kind of long outlived its usefulness. The Victorian bloodsucking dilettante as a weak metaphor for unchecked sexuality and a libertine-like license for indulgence. Wealth, money and influence all at the disposal of a cultured immortal.

I think that that's just the parasitic/cannibalistic nature of fictional entertainment (vampires in the entertainment industry! I claim trademark on that!). And while Anne Rice wasn't a pioneer in exploring the inner turmoil between a vampire's beastial humanity, she did do an effective job of plumbing those depths.

I've gotta say, as a big fan of the MiB lore, that's the closest approximation I've ever seen. They still didn't quite land it but... pretty close to the mark.

To this day, I'm annoyed that neither the MiB films nor Fringe has portrayed the urban legend Men In Black properly. They're either too cartoonish or revealed as the most cardboard b-movie stooges (I'm looking at you, Observers).

*sniff* Not cool, man. Not cool.

Chased by the Cat Bus from Totoro!

Oh grand. We've reached the fanboy pissing contest portion of this thread. Ho hum.

Kind of with you on this one. It's going to be a great summer for movies.

The negativity will fade as The Avengers gets smaller and smaller in the rear view mirror.

That's what I love most about his craft. Always sharpening, always exploring and with a real love for dialogue, characterization and a preference over real, meaty stunts vs. all-too-tempting CGI wizardry.

Speaking only for myself, I'm really rather done with the pun-slinging Catwomen in these portrayals. Especially Pfeiffer's.

It's this line of defense from Depp that I find the most reaching and ridiculous. For whatever reason there's a tendency by Southerners and Mid-Westerners to believe that, because they might have a pittance of Native American blood in them, they are then entitled to either speak for Native Americans or disregard

The white Silver and Bronze Age Nick Fury barely exists to most fans following the Ultimates line. [en.wikipedia.org]

Most of which consists of "Noooo! Nononononononononono!"

Ugh. This is the predominant reason I had to abandon the show. Who cares about integrity of narrative or consistency of characterization when you have actors needed to experiment with their range?

Stop! Stop! You're depleting my reserves of pre-emptive cynicism. Which I NEED!

I'm actually not a fan of the Dalek design AT ALL. They're ridiculously dated, even the iDalek models, down to their silly little plungers.

Anything that improves on the current craptastic design of Daleks is peachy keen by me.
