If everyone had this mentality, our computers would still run DOS.
Speak for yourself. Competition is a good thing, and I sure like the idea of what they're offering.
Congratulations, you aren't the ones contributing to the problem.
That's the beauty of it: you don't have to care at all!
Updates, achievements, cross-play, online multiplayer, something something friends.
It's not really a pain to have more than one platform on your PC. I mean seriously, you want Valve to have a virtual monopoly on digital distribution because having more than one game program run on your PC is too much of a pain for you?
Well fortunately you don't actually have to install GOG in order to use its platform... because... you know, it doesn't use DRM.
So tottaly wrong. steam is full of problems. the only reason it isn't treated as trash is because it has been to ONLY viable option for years(origin etc really are not the same as they are exclusive to either a company or to a "type" of game market).
You sir can go to hell. Are you buying all your groceries form just one shop? Do you drive always only one brand of car? Do you eat only at one fast food chain, because it is the the first? This mentality is retarded. We need competition, because Steam is now shit, the amount of shit that is published there is…
The problem is that Steam isn't perfect (nothing is). And something better (no DRM) is always a good thing. While I would rather just buy and play everything with a single unified thing/service. I am not a fan of a lot of things Steam does and an option is great.
Monopolies are never good, even if they start at initially benevolent. Just look at how terrible steams sales have been versus other distributors without them we will only have steams sales once in a blue moon versus constantly.
The thing is, this GOG Galaxy client is entirely optional. One can continue buying games off gog.com and playing them w/o any client. GOG Galaxy just makes it more convenient for those who want client software.
And yet so many PC gamers complain about having more than one option in this regard. "What?! There's a game I want to buy that's NOT on Steam? This is horrible!"
I wouldn't call it a "threat", it's another option. That's what the PC is all about. Options.
thought it needed to be posted
There are websites that automatially tell you if your computer can run certain games, PC gaming really isn't that confusing, just to people that don't PC game. If you build a decent rig, it's all pretty streamlined these days.
It's really not that hard. You're making a mountain out of a molehill. Not to mention that stuff like this is the result of sketchy backroom deals between companies, it's not something peculiar to PC gaming. It's just as likely that Microsoft or Sony would pay off Ubisoft to put extra time and effort into their…
I think the broader concern here is that Nvidia is slowly staking a monopolistic claim for itself and stifling competition and—as much as I hate to use this word—innovation in the process.
