Now that I’m in my 40s I almost laugh when I see print fashion ads and realize that I’m supposed to be interested in buying something worn by a baby-faced teen. I don’t begrudge the models their beauty or success. It just seems ridiculous. They should be smiling and wearing Forever 21 (or wherever kids shop now), not

And the photo is STILL airbrushed/paintshopped. I was looking at an ad for mascara the other day and in very small tiny lettering in the very bottom corner it says “eyelashes enhanced for detail” or some shit. It’s all so gross.

That may be the core problem, and the reason to shut it down. Modelling isn’t actually necessary, after all.

No child labour, period, to start with. Maybe no modelling at all, if modelling is inherently dehumanizing. We don’t really need to see models wearing these clothes - we need to try them on ourselves anyways. Artists’ drawings would be plenty to draw us in. I’m not sure what it would take to get to the point where

A 15 year old girl is a person- not an object. To be given instructions is not the same thing as someone not treating you like a person.

I think so many stop seeing you as anything but an object to manipulate.

It’s crazy, literally looking through magazines and it is filled with sexed up children. I was on a shoot last week (meeting with a photographer) and one of the models was dead ass 14. Her father was there and said he would always go with her but didn’t like the whole idea behind the industry. They had her glammed up

same with the cosmetic “anti aging” products marketed to 30+ women but the model is 20...

Although this will never stop creepers from being creepy- there’s an intrinsic problem within the entire modeling industry. Girls at 14 or 15 are modeling clothes advertised to women in their 30s and 40s- there’s something so fundamentally fucked about that. I did some modeling in my early teens and I can tell you

If they want to go back to their white roots, Shape of Water isn’t really the most obvious choice in the Oscar pool.

Please don’t go around apologising to every black person you see, it’s incredibly patronising.

Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained were both nominated for Best Picture as well. They Lost to The Hurt Locker and Argo, which at least were far superior opponents than Forrest Gump. ;-)

The Color Purple Effect= white people portrayed as evil= no Oscar

I can see that but it’s also been over 25 years since a “Psychological Thriller/Horror” has been nominated and last time it won everything (Silence of the Lambs). Quirky white girl coming of age winning anything has only been a little over 10 years (Lost In Translation). Not even because I bet we could fit Emma

Oscar voters love little, independent movies that have not been seen by many people (Hurt Locker, The Piano, etc). I personally believe del Toro will win Best Director, and the film Shape of Water will win Best Picture. Moonlight won last year, and Hollywood must go back to its white roots. LOL.

Pulp Fiction was ... it lost out to Forrest Gump. That was the last year I watched the awards, because that’s a load of crap.

I haven’t even seen it yet, although I will be seeing it shortly at the official Oscar nomination screenings! I just get the sense that Academy voters will feel they’ve already proved they’re hip non-racists merely by nominating it.

I think it deserves all the Oscars but I can’t imagine the Oscar voters who loved Crash voting for it. I don’t see them voting for Call Me By Your Name, either.

So in other words, boys will be boys. I hope you raise your sons better than that.

He was not a preteen when the show ended was he? It seems to me people can’t separate actors from the characters they play. Look at the rampant defence of Bill Cosby for example. No one can reconcile that monster with cliff huxtable
