I remember a co-worker’s 1.9 TDI Jetta had the intake nearly plugged solid with carbon buildup from the EGR, maybe VW tried this software method to increase reliability? If so will using more EGR cause carbon issues on the 2.0’s also?

In high school the first thing I did when borrowing Dad’s 81 Chevy pickup was flip the air cleaner lid over so I could hear that 350/quadrajet go Whoooooomp when the secondaries opened.

We used to pull the hubcaps off a buddy’s Buick Century and throw a few beer bottle caps inside, always made a for a nice rattle at low speeds.

If you read the linked Automotive News article, this isn’t about cutting american jobs to make a car elsewhere, it’s about shuffling FCA production around to produce higher profit margin SUV’s and Trucks at more US plants so they can pay those American workers the higher wages they are demanding.

I haven’t had to work on it much yet, but tons of room underhood on our ‘13 Dart with 1.4 turbo.

By their nature a diesel should outlast a gasoline engine. Diesel fuel has lubricating properties where gasoline is more of a solvent. Gasoline will wash the oil off the cylinder walls of an engine and dilute the oil causing increased wear. Diesel does a much better job of helping to keep things lubricated.
