To be fair, as far as I can tell they only have any sort of jurisdiction on their own property, it’s literally just fancy security that can arrest people for breaking laws on church property w/o having to simply wait for the police to arrive.

Yep, just because you’re booked on a later connecting flight doesn’t mean you can’t take an earlier one. My experience is if they have the room, airlines are happy to do that as it frees up a later spot for somebody who may miss a flight or whatever.
