You're making two points here (one about society tolerating open sexual expression and that "dating sims" are inherently immature and inferior games to ones that fetishize violence). I will address both, but the latter more specifically.

If you're cutting cable but still want DVR functionality I think you'll have a better bet with building an HTPC and run your own DVR on it. You can build a decent one for about 500 dollars and you'd be free of Tivo charges.

Every week or so I bicycle past the line of costumed people trying to get onto the show in Hollywood. And a good friend of ours brought another friend of ours to a taping, and that other friend actually won a Costa Rican trip, so they both went on the trip a few months ago.
