I concur. It was a Praxis-scale disaster.
I concur. It was a Praxis-scale disaster.
Highly disturbing.
Terrifying.
That’s pretty much what our justice system IS about. I just think they’re making a big stink over a very minor grievance. But the squeaky wheel gets the grease I suppose.
I have a slightly more cynical take: He just got old.
I absolutely agree with your point, but take slight exception to your examples.
The thing that people fail to understand about being incarcerated is that your freedoms are curtailed. You don’t get to choose your own schedule, and the prison isn’t beholden to rearranging its system to accommodate the arbitrary and nonsensical belief systems of its inmates. The fact that they’re making any…
Well if nothing else, you have a gift for hyperbole.
Oh, I wasn’t referring specifically to fasting, I was referring to their religion in general. And you’re right, lots of religions practice fasting and all kinds of other absurdities. It’s by no means exclusive to Muslims.
In the United States, people are able to do almost anything as they see fit, worship included. But it gets a little trickier when you’re a convicted felon serving time in prison, doesn’t it? I’m not sure that bureaucratic inefficiency in accommodating special religious concessions to convicts serving time constitutes…
Breanna, why is this news?
How is this ridiculous? The prisons aren’t trying to ‘fuck with’ Muslims. It sounds like their already making very generous accommodations for their preposterous belief system. No one’s being starved... they’re refusing to eat. I’m not sure how you can fault the prisons for that.
To answer a rhetorical question: lots of people find this funny. They did. And frankly I think everyone’s making a mountain of a mole hill here. But, I get why the administration had to respond the way it did. They’re terrified of backlash from the always-eager-to-be-outraged general public. It’s PC culture gone mad.…
So Michael, you’ve labeled this man a racist and given no evidence to support that other than proximity to other racists. I get that The Root doesn’t really adhere to normal standards of journalistic integrity, but this is just sloppy.
I sort of felt like Wakanda was a borderline offensive exercise in facetiousness. As in:
I share your sentiment in part. I don’t care what people put in their bodies... I don’t care if it kills them. But I do care if I have to smell it. Which is why I hate weed with a wild passion and sincerely wish it was still illegal. It’s the pungent aroma of poverty and low ambition. I can’t abide.
You make an interesting point about white privilege.
I wasn’t presenting an argument, I was presenting a fact. Killing people may not be legal, and it may not be moral (depending on your philosophical skew), but it is a viable solution to certain problems. This gent saw it as a solution to his, and proceeded accordingly. Not necessarily the route I would have gone, but…
He’s dead. Did you not read the article?
Waitresses are typically required to tip out at the end of their shift, sometimes as much as 7% of their total sales. If you’re too cheap to tip, it actually costs them money to serve you.
