Who wants to struggle in and out of a cocoon each time they have to get up? Isn’t getting off the couch hard enough in winter? Also, I like the versatility of my ancient couch blanket. When I’m sick I wear it like a cloak.
Fun fact: I live in a part of Detroit that has no representative right now because he is in jail. But thanks for the reminder that it’s not a done deal, so I can work on figuring out how to pester.
Yep, they don’t get that a review is NOT analysis. Good luck to you my friend, we educators deserve hazard pay in a post-fact America!
Hell yeah! Congrats on the bebe, and MI solidarity!
I’m 27 weeks pregnant. All tests have been good so far but you better believe that if my health was endangered in this last trimester we would make the decision to abort. Because my adult female life matters too god-fucking-damnit! It would be a heartbreaking decision for us, we really want this little person in our…
Ha, as soon as I posted I pictured chubby little baby hands and wrists in ludicrously long plastic zip-ties. I remember when they started using those at mass protests in the 2000s, it’s pretty clever of them to use something light, cheap, and one-size-fits-all.
That is a reasonable thing to take into consideration! It’s another reason I would protest locally. But hey, we need a diversity of tactics and a plethora of protesters! There’s no one-size-fights-all way to protest and resist.
I LOVE a good protest / sports riot joke!
It’s been a very recent development, I’m awaiting statements from my union and my SO’s union.
Blue Pussy brigade!
Hey, I’m in MI too! This fucking state right now, amirite? And Betsy deVos?!?!? Solidarity!
YES. And paying for an increasingly small pool of hotels? That’s ANOTHER reason why I encourage people to explore if there are inauguration protests happening in their own state that day. Let’s remind out state reps that Trump doesn’t have a mandate, and not just fill the coffers of D.C. and MD hotels.
I’m debating going to my state protest. I think the big fights over the next 4 years will be on the state level, so that’s where I want my voice heard on Inauguration Day. But I will also be 7.5 months pregnant and my state (Michigan) just passed some fascist anti-protest laws. I’ll have to talk it out with my partner…
I mean, how is the Heartbreak Bill not unconstitutional? Republicans state legislators have been emboldened by their lack-of-a-mandate-or-majority candidate, they’re trying all kinds of fascist nonsense. MI’s bill is ostensibly about quelling strike, but very obviously could be used to suppress protests of all…
Plus it will be adorable. The cops will be all “we don’t have handcuffs small enough!”
FUCK. That’s crazy. As I say, it’s a personal decision we will all have to consider. I have been planning to go to the inauguration protest in Lansing, MI so my state reps are reminded of the number of Trump opponents among their constituency, even though I will be 7.5 mos pregnant. But now Michigan is passing…
Back in the 2000s it was a common tactic for protestors to organize at rallies by their willingness to risk arrest. People who could not risk arrest were “green,” and stayed in the permitted areas. People who were “yellow” or “red” and were willing to risk arrest had to be prepared for that possibility. That included…
Truth. I can only imagine the footage Mark Burnett is sitting on. Although given the election results he could have had footage of Trump fucking a Muslim man at the Vietnam memorial and no one would have cared...
YES, he is so familiar to educators. How often do I tell my students that word repetition is a sign that they didn’t proofread AND that they haven’t fully articulated their ideas? Trump only has a 100 word vocabulary, half are synonyms for “best.” He’s every student bullshitting their way through a presentation on a…
