Yeah, but there’s 3o million people in Texas. The fact that someone has died every day on Texas roads isn’t really that surprising.

Yes this is the issue. As a life long Texan the speed isn’t really the problem, bad drivers are. That 85 mph Toll Road, other than being built in hog country, it’s lots of longish areas with slow sweeping curves, it was DESIGNED for high speed. And while yes there are areas where there is a 75 mph are they are highway

Any empty interstate in the country is safe at 90mph. And if that's not too much faster than the rest of traffic, it's fine.

Hello from Germany.

I wouldn’t say 80-90 is absurdly fast - unless you’re plowing into other stopped cars.  Also, speeding 10 over the speed limit doesn’t save 3-4 minutes in Texas, given the size of the state, crossing the state on I-40 it could save nearly 1.5 hours.

Texas has a Texas driver problem. I was in Dallas a few months ago, and in just a few blocks of Market Center Blvd counted a half dozen spots where people had driven through the new guardrail between the street and the sidewalk. The project was still under construction and already half destroyed. They could lower the

Some 25 years ago, i drove from DFW to Austin and jt was 80-95moh almost the whole way, across multiple lanes. The biggest hazards were people poking along at 50-55mph. Speed wasn’t responsible for accidents, but speed differentials were!

Here we are on Jalopnik, and yet there’s no mention of the EcoBoost being no longer available with the 6 speed manual transmission. This was a phenomenal drivetrain combination with plenty of pep, but also less weight over the front wheels compared to a GT. I thoroughly enjoyed mine. It’s a shame that we can no longer

I'd be in the market for a new focus ST if it existed over here

Well built, reliable, cars at affordable prices. They know, they just don’t like it. That is why they keep throwing in all those baubles and toys to try and distract us.

It’s easy: Wireless android auto/carplay, keep physical buttons for the important stuff (volume, all climate controls), a touchscreen (because that’s what carplay/android auto are designed for), physical buttons on the steering wheel, a dashboard display separate from the center display.

I’m going to take the easy path again and suggest my own car- a Mazda3 hatchback. You can get them with AWD if you think FWD won’t give you enough snow traction. I haven’t had any issues driving a FWD model in Michigan winters, but you probably get more snow than we do. One of the reasons I bought the car was that I

I hate to break it to you but people with a car note on a Jeep that trade it in for a Kia are not upper income. That is squarely middle-class antics.

I also read this as 82% of people surveyed are complete idiots

I’ll be able to make the car loan if I don’t have to repay my student loan that’s been deferred since 2021.

If Capital One turns down your car loan application, you couldn’t qualify for a loan for a sandwich.

I think this argument distracts from the point of the gas tax in the first place, which isn’t to encourage efficiency but as a way to pay for infrastructure that everyone uses. The idea behind it being a gas tax was that it used to be generally true that heavier cars used more fuel and cause more roadway damage so

This. Was genuinely looking at a Mustang for my next car, but now I have to get the current gen, as I don’t need the V8 but want a manual

At the same time the dealer is only going to order what they think will sell. Also since the Mustang is a rental car sweetheart there is that and of course autotragics produce better CAFE numbers so there are a few compelling reasons for Ford to tell buyers what they really want is an autotragic Ecoboost Mustang and

Most of the hate Mustangs get is unwarranted. They are fabulous daily drivers. I spent about 12 years daily driving Mustangs and enjoyed every minute of it. It may not be the fastest, best handling, or most comfortable car on the road, but it’s a great mix of all those things, especially for the price.
