Not to be THAT guy (but I’m TOTALLY going to be That Guy), Two Rivers is only a sleepy out of the way town/region at the time the story begins. Prior to the start of the story (by several hundred years, at least), there was a lot more activity in that area of the world, in general.

It’s been years and years since I gave up on the books so correct me if I’m wrong, but while the village where the main characters are coming from is kind of a backwater, it 1) already was described in a way that made it sound like Rand was super weird for being a ginger, and most of the people around him hard darker…

The story and acting in Fifth Element were both way better than Valerian, at least in my opinion.
