Yeah, C- is about right. Say what one will about Zack Snyder’s style or the general approach to these DC films so far...this one plays like a frenzied, cluttered dash through a checklist.
If I’m a guy in WWI and a superhuman woman in a cool costume shows up to fight on my side, I’m also probably cool with it (not that there would be much of an option). I mean, probably. It’s theoretical.
I was surprised to kind of...approve of Cyborg visually. I thought he looked terrible in the promotional stills. Kinda a cool look, very chrome.
I fell asleep while watching the 2003 Riverworld adaption. What’s the deal with that weird boat? Things come out of nowhere when you’ve been dozing off.
Oh, Saskia Reeves. I’ve not watched Children of Dune, although I’ve heard that it’s the better of the two. I haven’t read any of the books beyond the first either. The ending is perfect enough that I’m not sure I want to add to it.
That’s very good to hear. The Lynch film is sometimes-amazing in a way that just feels wrong to me.
It is fairly fun, although I think that it verges into being silly in some of the wrong ways.
I love the actor for Jessica in the Syfy miniseries.
I’d say that it’s just really fun and fully of great action and imagery, 007-type gadget porn combined with light-on-its-feet feel. And as many people have said, it’s still the closest thing that we’ve had to a good Fantastic Four film.
This whole Randian notion never occurred to me when I originally watched and enjoyed The Incredibles as a superhero story about a family sticking together. The message that I got out of it was something more along the lines of ‘be yourself,’ which might not stand up to deep scrutiny of all the film’s angles, but...I…
I’ve never watched an AC/DC video before, but I noticed that Malcom doesn’t even appear in this one until the 3:00 mark, and he and/or his guitar is only visible for maybe two full seconds until the long wide shot of Angus’ solo near the end. Not really surprising I guess, but a bit of shame in this case.
I totally thought for a moment that I was looking at a genuine obituary headline, but I should have known that it wouldn’t be so simple with Corgan.
Nice writeup Jesse. I also was really excited by the mention of Trask. I’d love to see this show funnel into DOFP, even as I realize that I don’t want these characters to find themselves in that future.
The wolf-helicopter shot is nuts.
Zac Efron vehicle Excitebike still looking for a director.
The summary leaves out a big part of the Kryptonian plot which is Zod attempting to give his people a new home by terraforming Earth. That’s what leads to the big battle, as there are two giant Kryptonian machines on opposite sides of the globe and they have to be destroyed or humans won’t have breathable air any more.
I think that there’s an homage to him in the film, but yeah, needs to be moving onscreen.
He really took that ‘painter of light’ thing someplace dark.
I’m no fan of CGI Cushing/Fisher, but the prequels...kind of made zombies of actual living actors.
