I think the reason they use a gay man as the hypothetical harasser is because if you said “Imagine your hot lady coworker did x, y, or z.” These guys would be all on board. Imagining advances from someone they have no sexual attraction to is the only way to get them into the victim’s mindset.

Agreed. It was a lapse in judgment. We can hold him accountable without requiring that he step down. We can also hold him accountable without putting him on the same level of creepiness as Weinstein, Rose, et al. Binary thinking is extremely damaging in situations like this, but almost everyone falls back on it.

Depends on your situation. Staff turnover is pretty high at the lower levels of the company I work for and I’m technically higher on the org chart than the bosses I’m CCing (not above them, just higher). I can see your point, but it works for me.

You’re 100% correct. This isn’t very hard. Don’t think of your coworkers as potential bed-mates, and most of the problems just seem to disappear.
