Why oh why can I only give you one star?
Why oh why can I only give you one star?
I’ll just leave this here.
People get upset at being called out for “mansplaining” for the same reason you’d get upset if people accused you of “white knighting.” You have a position and would like to discuss that position based on its merits. Name calling throws that discussion out the window and turns it into a “Nuh-uh!” “Yuh-huh!” shouting…
Good for you, FridayFriday. Seriously, assertiveness counts for a lot and I agree that assertiveness is too often softened or discouraged in women. The best career advice I ever got was from my father-in-law. He said “If you want a raise, ask for it. If you want a promotion, ask for it. Your boss is busy and might…
It’s in a company’s best interest to keep pay scales opaque because it allows them to enact a form of price discrimination. On the consumer side that means if you’re willing to buy something at $50, they’ll sell it to you at $50. If you jump through a few hoops (i.e. coupons, waiting for sales, rebates) you can get…
You, sir, have beautifully illustrated a point I’ve been shouting into the internet abyss for years. I can disagree with you, but that doesn’t mean I’m a [insert pejorative “-ist” or “-phobe” of your choosing]. It means I disagree. Show me facts and we’ll discuss them. This infographic presented some very compelling…
My wife used to give me a hard time because I would, on occasion, use shampoo to wash the hairy bits of my body and, in a pinch, use a bar of soap to wash my hair. I told her “Can you tell one bubble from another? Yeah, well neither can my body.” I know bars of soap can dry out your hair and shampoo might not be the…
I think a business that denies service to anyone based on their sexuality, race, color, etc. is terrible and deserves to go out of business. However, I also believe that a business should be free to fail and go out of business because people voted with their dollars rather than the government stepping in and mandating…
You’re right. Kids all hit milestones at different points and family situations differ so much that no one should compare themselves too closely to anyone else. Obviously if a kid is, like, YEARS behind where doctors say they should be maybe that’s a red flag, but don’t let Facebook and Instagram skew your…
Oh man, I feel you. Stick with it. It sucks, but recognize and celebrate all the tiny victories.
Funnily enough this morning I started with the full 4-step instructions. They can now recite the steps in order from memory. It’s not hard and took maybe five minutes this morning. I’ll review a couple times per week until they’re old enough to go shooting with me. Then we’ll move on to the rules of safe gun handling.
My wife and I have 4-year-old twins with a baby on the way. People used to ask me all the time how we got our kids to sleep so well or play by themselves or just not need attention all the time and my answer was always “Neglect, neglect, neglect.” Not ACTUAL neglect, mind you, but in all honesty our twins were never…
Good list for basics and getting started. I was raised to keep a full year’s supply of food in case of emergencies, job loss, etc. It’s shockingly easy to do, but when people find out about it they roll their eyes. Yeah, like nothing bad could EVER happen. Earthquakes, hurricanes, power outages, layoffs during a down…
I have two kids 4 and under. Both of them have seen my guns. Every time I get the chance I show them a gun (usually my carry weapon) and ask them “What’s this?” They answer “A gun.” “Do you touch guns?” “No.”
I’ll take GALLONS of meconium over what my somehow-still-not-100%-potty-trained 4-year-old did at the trampoline park yesterday.
I can’t remember the reader’s name, but I had no real complaints about her performance. Female readers in general tend to be distracting to me when they read male characters because of the way they have to pitch down their voice, but I didn’t mind so much in this instance.

I listened to this book several months ago. Honestly it’s kinda average in my opinion. There was one character whose whole contribution to the story I assumed to be just a joke because of how he was introduced. The level of gravity they eventually gave his backstory seemed shoe-horned in and his character would have…

Leashes are for unruly animals, kids included. I have twins and their leashes are the only reason they didn’t wind up in the ocean when we took them on a cruise when they were three. The kid gets more freedom than when it’s being held and the parent doesn’t have to choose between back pain from holding a kid or a…
Guys the whole “language debate” is has been settled. Esperanto. It’s a perfect language with rigidly-defined rules and it’s spoken by literally HUNDREDS of people all over the world. Why would you bother learning anything else?
Huh... Neat.
