I disagree. You’ll have a harder time self-arresting a partner if they fall into a crevasse, and if you’re out leading a climb you should be comfortable falling in a basic harness. Chest harnesses are really only necessary for ascending a rope, and you can rig one out of a sling very easily if neccesary.
