To grant the wish, the Devil needs to make everyone on Earth smarter, more enlightened, and more non-repulsive than the man currently is. So the man is wishing for everyone except him to be better; he’s improving the world but not benefiting himself so it’s extra humble and unselfish.

Why do people keep using the phrase “hard pass” as if it was inherently funny

That’s it! The Halloween costume thread only has 5 comments when Show Pending is on, and it’s much longer without Show Pending. That’s bullshit.

I’ve posted about this before, but I don’t understand the way Kinja counts comments. This article says it has 35 comments, but I’ve expanded every thread and viewed Pending, and I see 21. I just read an article that claimed to have 99 comments and there were only 35! This is such a basic function; how can any comment

Exactly. The world of Futurama was based on a specific sci-fi aesthetic, with references to specific sci-fi settings and sub-genres. (As well as subtle jokes about actual science and math.)

I’m always amazed at how popular dairy drinks are in Asia, where >90% of people are lactose-intolerant.

Yes. Most articles would usually have over a hundred comments, popular articles would have several hundred, and it wasn’t uncommon to see over a thousand. It was possible to read large numbers of comments because the commenting system wasn’t complete garbage. Those days are behind us.

You put the candy in the chili. Makes it taste...bad...

You forgot Step 0: Live in a state where beer is sold in grocery stores. Many of us don’t.

That happened to me too. (In the Boston area.) I recorded a later showing in the hopes that they’d fix their mistake eventually, but I haven’t confirmed it yet. My next option is to watch through Fios On Demand, though that has un-skippable commercials.

Jacks’ Abby makes some great beer. I don’t care for Post Shift Pilsner because I don’t especially like the style, but I’m glad to see Jacks’ Abby getting more attention in general.

Maybe Rita Moreno will reprise her nun character from Oz in the prison scenes!

The “Groove is in the Heart” segment was amazing.

Bar carts don’t seem like a practical way to store your liquor and cocktail supplies. They don’t use space efficiently (especially for glasses), they don’t protect from dust, and they don’t hold nearly enough. I also find it unlikely that anyone actually rolls the cart between rooms; that sounds like a good way to

The AV Club turned into High Times so gradually I didn’t even notice.

I’ve complained about the irregular recap schedule, so I have to give you credit for coming back to recap the finale. I think the model you suggest for next year, of covering the premiere and finale and maybe a mid-season check-in, would be a good compromise if full coverage isn’t feasible.

That’s good news! Lodge 49 manages to balance comedy, characterization, and mystery/weird elements without tilting too far in any direction. It’s a lot of fun.

The best reason to buy vodka is to make your own infused spirits.

The Prius isn’t really an economy car. Dennis should have been in a Corolla or a used Tercel or something.

It’s taken me a while to warm up to him. I think he’s generally funny, but some of his characters/voices are just too grating to enjoy. Unfortunately Coach Steve (and Steve’s hormone monster) fall into that category. I still enjoy Kroll when he’s not actively trying to be as irritating as possible. (Unlike Fred
