The cool thing about the variable conditions was that it threw out all the stacks of data the teams were relying on to make every little decision. It came down to driver feedback and heads up decision making. Since adding sprinklers to induce wet races is impossible, what about reducing the number of sensor and data

I wouldn’t go that far. This was interesting and enjoyable because there was lots of “stuff” happening in an unpredictable manner, but I think Silverstone was by far a better “race”... Because the drama came from the actual wheel-to-wheel racing and not who was getting caught on what tire in when a safety car came

No such thing as too touchy feely with F1 talk! It’s half engineering and half about people and the things teams do to keep them happy and productive while being overworked and effectively separated from their families. And then throw in the immense pressure of competition, team loyalty, money, it’s a crazy

And electric cars are going to/already are faster than ICE cars with fancy high performance automatics. If the point is pure performance, then ICE are dead. If the point is fun and a specific type of experience from behind the wheel, then an ICE with 3 pedals might be the only answer. I think we need to get beyond

To be fair, your sample size of 1 was not the best example of what BMW can/should be doing. Late model 3 series are effectively bought the way that 5 series were back in 2005 except with more concessions designed for mass consumption/production. They have little/none of the old “ultimate drivers mache” ethos remaining.

I think looking at the broader trend is a little misguided, as that dude at BMW implies. If manuals are a niche interest, like mechanical watches, then you’d expect the numbers to dwindle to very low until only the niche vehicles have manuals. As cool as manual SUV, wagons and base economy cars are, there’s no need

Ok, the first two things aren’t really up for debate. If you’ve watched the races this year, they keep snatching defeat from the jaws of victory with repeated unforced errors. (not counting Vettel just fucking up). Ferrari have literally got quali strategy so bad that they allowed a pole contender car to be eliminated

If I lived somewhere that was within driving distance of the Ring, I would 100% wrap my car in the style of OEM testing camo just to fuck with people like us

CA isn’t the only place with fun-killing laws. At least there the actual driving part is so good that it’s worth th eheadaches

Seems like a small price to pay for all those incredible roads, great weather, epicenter of so many distinct car cultures (that literally influence the world, not just he rest of the US). Hell, even VA has stupidly insane laws about modifying your car which are just designed to allow cops to hassle kids. Even the

You forgot the miserable winters

CA is 100% the best place. Choosing anywhere else is an exercise in trying to not choose the obvious choice... but it’s #1 for a reason

All the roads are straight tho...

If you’re android, just use an aux-input cable. All problems solved.

Exactly. A phone literally is the best, most up to date navigation system you can buy. Why would you ever need one native to the car that is shit now and is guaranteed to only get worse?

This is your opportunity to express how I’m not wrong?

That was my hope. Let the boomers pay over sticker for a year or two, then roll out a 3 pedal version for the enthusiasts. One can dream. But now that more cutaways that show the packaging of the trans/engine/cooling stuff... It’s looking like there’s no room to make this happen. There was some patent about a remote

Ah, you must mean James Allison then.

Saw him speak Saturday night at a 50th anniversary event, it was by far the highlight of the evening. Not just because of who he was, but because of how he was. He was light hearted, sincere, genuinely funny (like disarmingly, shockingly funny) and inspiring. Top class human, that one.

You mean Maurizio Arrivabene?
