This is so true. When you hear road testers talking about what its really like to do lap time testing, you learn a hell of a lot about the cars and companies. Porsche just let you pick up the car somewhere and they will provide you with multiple sets of tires if you ask. Meanwhile Ferrari show up with a pit crew,

Agreed. At least these tests are done more/less on the same day in similar conditions. A March vs August lap time, or even vs overcast day vs sunny day lap time in the same car is going to have a significant variance.

This. 1000x this. The fact that a set of RE71R can gain you nearly 1 sec on a 50 sec autocross course over something like Super Sports pretty much drops the pants on the whole lap time arms race. Magazine tests need to be more diligent about tires, or at least ask manufacturers to provide cars that are on tires that

“Exhibition of acceleration” or similar is a ticketable offense many places... Ask me how I know

Lateral Gs as measured on a skid pad in steady state cornering are fairly simple for anyone to reproduce, especially with traction control systems as good as they are.

The Ferrari looked like the better car until that disastrous summer update that sunk their season, which happened to actually coincide with Seb’s downward slide actually. How the man responsible for that upgrade was later promoted to the team boss, I will never know... anyhow

I’m a 911 owner that eyes used Corvettes just because they are so ridiculously cheap. I’d hate to be seen in any of them... but man they are classed so well for SCCA and are cheap maintain as track beater (compared to a 911). Rather than get a new 911 (they just get bigger, heavier and less tactile) I’m half tempted

Oh man, never thought of that comparison. It’s certainly an interesting one. I’ve always liked the styling front vs mid engined about the same, mainly depending on execution of the car itself, but I LOVE the way a mid-engined car rotates and I LOVE being closer to the front axle. I’ve always felt a bit weird in cars

Smart man McLaren perhaps, but 100% this is the death of the NSX haha

Nice! I’m seriously eyeing GT4 price trends. I think there will be some bargains to be had in the near future. Id rather have a 997 GT3 (prices also coming back to earth), but it’s hard to argue against a GT4 for a lot less money.

100% agree. And you can almost predict what magazines will choose which winners because we know how their calculus works. Motortrend will choose the Corvette because they factor in value heavily. Evo Magazine will choose the Cayman because they throw out price and are focused on the feedback, involvement, chassis

Mother in law has one, minus the performance pack that I’ve driven. I’ve had rides in a few performance pack models on RE71R that autox here locally. They are mind boggling. SO FAST. They do things a car like that shouldnt be able to do. I am in absolute awe of them.

No hesitation, 981 GT4 all day. Far lighter, more tactile, optimized, sharpened and just a better car to interact with at any speed. The M2C is a bit too porky and a bit too numb for me to be completely happy in it. But it’s a great option.

As a boomer, what do you think of this thing?

PDK Caymans. 3 pedal Caymans still offer something this car can’t, which makes them attractive... In spite of that loathsome engine

You’d be surprised how many owners have both. Different tools for different jobs and different experiences. Only the internet and car magazines force the narrative that they compete with each other.

Nah, a small percentage will cross shop. And lack of a manual cuts out huge swaths of the 911 buyer. It’s more to compare with a Cayman as the performance value at similar price points is wildly different between the two. But again, lack of a manual might prove to be a big sticking point. You can only use 495 hp a

100%. Moms passed theirs down to Karens. Karens who didn’t wreck them passed them on to grandmas who backed their Buick into some Dales’ truck at Church last fall.

Fair. Fortunately, Elon Musk isn’t the CEO, so we can just sweep that under the rug **nothing to see here**

At first I thought this might be fun to watch, but this timing is dumb. And these things always drag on longer than they should with everyone patting themselves on the back. Not sure why Chevy didn’t just more this an hour earlier on west coast time so they wouldn’t alienate 1/3 of the country. Not even the world
