I’d argue that most folks have a simplistic view of politics.

A post about a person’s dog is fine. We all post off-topic from time to time. A daily post about a person’s dog, especially at the end-of-the-day political recap, is a deliberate distraction and, for some of us, an intrusion. 

I agree with you. I find these ongoing threads annoying and an attending grab. If I want to look at dog pictures I’ll go to the aww sub on Reddit. I click on an article and expect to see relevant comments, not things that derail conversation every single day. Thanks for this comment.
