I think you’re close, but taking my “relatively small increase” as meaning.. unmeaningful.
It’s just these days, content/art/assets/etc is such a huge piece of the cost, and that’s almost entirely portable (especially with good engine/tools). Like if you include art outsourcing, there’s probably 5-10x as many artists

Well, I think a major reason was that it was way easier to develop for (it really was). That’s also the only reason Xbox (original) gained any traction as well.
Ironically, the PS1 was way nicer to work on than the Sega Saturn, and I think that really got Sony their foothold, and then they went on to make 2 very

Xbox (original) outsold GameCube, and Xbox One outsold WiiU (by a HUGE margin). I think they might be playing this up a bit for some unexplainable reason :P

I do think it’s different to buy smaller studios over time because it at least offers more opportunity for other companies to grab things as well, but I acknowledge your point.
However, bringing up Bethesda (which, I agree, is more relevant) is part of the issue. They bought a big one with a lot of stuff already, and

This is fair. I’m probably overestimating the importance of Activision (which is partly why I pointed out I hadn’t played a game of theirs in.. decades, but I acknowledge I play a pretty slim section of games... RPGs, horror games, oddball indies. I know that CoD is still huge).

As someone who hasn’t played an Activision game since probably X-men Legends, this deal won’t affect me at all (Ok, it will - having CoD on Gamepass means the kid will stop asking me to buy them :P ), so no real horse in the race.
But it seems a bit disingenuous to compare buying Activision-Blizzard with some

I wonder what risk he’s referring to. Usually releasing across multiple platforms is a way of reducing (financial) risk since you greatly increase your audience for a relatively small increase of cost...

Seems like a little while ago, there were enough people at 343 to focus on those things, and also create cutscenes. I wonder what happened to them all...

So does this mean I’m gay again? Back to camp for me.

Fair enough. It is nice being able to loan games. I don’t have time to play games I’m not completely confident I’m going to like, so I never take into account the idea of selling my games.

I’ve moved to mostly digital. With all the patches (especially day 1 patches) and stuff, the disk is typically worthless anyway, and just requires me to figure out where my kid put it when they swapped games because of course it didn’t go back in the proper case.
If I could put the disk in and play the game perfectly

Sony commits to not releasing any PC port until 5 months before they’re ready.

Now playing

Holy crap! Is deSantis a Pete Holmes character?

Game seems like it was a real top-down Directive-driven game. “hey, studio we now own: Take all your experience in other designs, and give us one of them live-service games. And make sure it releases on this date, whether it’s done or not. It worked for Halo Infinite.

I’ve been loving it, but last night it crashed my PS5 so hard I had to physically restart it. I’ve not seen that in a lonnng time. Sadly, I’ll have to redo a fairly tough bounty hunter battle, but should only be about 10 minutes of do-over.
 Save often, people!

Like many, I was so in love with Control I decided to go back and give this one a shot a couple years ago.
Reddick is great, and a definite highlight.
As for the rest of the game, at least it’s pretty short >_>

I do think that many of the great decisions in Control (well, mostly not having any extended cutscenes, and

From what I understand, they’re entirely motivated by sex (they’re not ace). The movement is for women to realize that the men they’re chasing are trash, and they should get with the incels because they know how to treat ladies right, not like Chads who just fuck ‘em and dump ‘em, leaving them single mothers who’ve

I just finished this last night. It was really touching and sweet. Aloy’s got a bit of a little sister thing with me (NOT in the pornhub way :P ) where I see a lot of the same social awkwardness in her character along with her earnestness, and seeing her learn to trust and enjoy someone on a personal level, knowing

I feel like the youtubes have really lowered the bar on what qualifies as a “prank” these days. On the bright side, at least half of them are rehearsed and faked, so probably not as bad as it seems.
Not mad, just disappointed.

I can’t help but laugh when people say Disney is doing anything for an agenda other than money. Their only agenda is getting more money, and any wokeness or diversity is driven entirely by the consuming public’s shifting tastes.
