Let's just go with a standard service charge and be done with it. There is way too much bullshit wrapped up in a "tip". People are awful.

Restaurant keeps checks at each location specifically for the eventuality of needing them to pay servers. "But it would take too long!" is thus even more of a dipshit thing to say then your first comment. Try harder.

When restaurants don't have the money to actually give the servers their pay in credit card tips (which does happen sometimes) standard practice is to write them a check. This is especially easy for a large corporation that knows it can back up said check. So...you're wrong, and that point is stupid.
