I think so. That’s why all stereotyping can be damaging. Chimimanda Nguzi Adiche did a really good job of explaining it in her “Danger of a Single Story” lecture. Stereotypes even when “positive” limit people and don’t slow them to be fully authentic human beings.

I recommend you watch The Mast You Live In. I saw it a while back while I don’t remember exactly if this is explored in detail, they did have several scenes at a support group run by a black man for young black men.

I think you’re right that how “maculinity” is defined impacts men across race & class lines—but, that there’s also PARTICULARITIES for men of color—-who may have an “inflated” idea of “masculinity” to COUNTER the powerlessness they experience in a white supremacist society
