I’m also clueless and white and named after a woman of colour so am pretty biased but I don’t think it’s annoying in itself. It’s that this woman is so willfully clueless that giving her child that name is just farcical. At this point, she’s just a walking talking satirical skit

The whole site has been really fucking snarky recently. It’s almost tiring reading one sarcastic snark after another. This is a good thing. Can we just have a good thing and call it that? For once?

Introduced??? Should I take this to mean you haven’t seen his turn as Robert Dudley to Anne Marie Duff’s Elizabeth 1??????

Can we have this world wide, please! I swing towards introverted and have had trouble finding new friends in London. My 2 best friends live 1.5 hours train journey away and in Japan, respectively and I find I spend allll of my time with the boyfriend. It’s not that bad - he’s cool, but I do find myself really missing

Until recently I was a constable in the Met and stories like this give me faith that the whole institution isn’t completely fucked. I met a lot of people who I wouldn’t trust with with a toy gun, let alone a real one, but also a lot of people who were terrified by the idea that UK police might attempt to arm more

If it’s British I’ve never heard it. We call it economy. Which makes much more sense than coach :)

This always confuses me, like it would be better if she went nbd - I’ve got loads of cash! It reminds me of (forgive me) an episode of KUWTKs when Kim lost a massive diamond earring in the sea and everyone took the piss out of her for crying. If she lost a $10,000 earring and shrugged, that’s when she should catch

I’m not 100% sure what you were getting at at the end there but of course I’m not saying this kind of thing doesn’t happen in the UK (as I said, I’m related to one of them). That said, I DO think there is a difference in what politicians are prepared to say openly here. There’s more criticism and while the government

Thank you! I did have a moment where I thought “-5? She must have been outside for days!” then I pulled up a conversion chart. I can’t even imagine that kind of cold. Just awful.

I think my question is really why do developers feel the need to obviously distinguish between affordable housing and, for lack of a better phrase, affluent housing? Why the need to make it clear which flats are which when they could be made to look the same? Why not build decent flats and allocate 25% of them to

I asked this downthread but it’s something I’ve wondered. I like to think it’s not aimed at low income families (although my good will is wearing thin), I really think it’s designed to reassure richer people that they can stay an appropriate distance from ‘undesirables’.

There’s a scheme in London at the moment (someone might be able to enlighten me as to whether this applies outside the M25 as well?) where new blocks need to allocate 25% to affordable housing. There’s a block I used to work near, right next to Arsenal football ground, where it could not be more obvious which blocks

So I’m white and British so it’s really easy for me to put my fingers in my ears, go lalalalala and pretend people like this don’t really exist. How you guys go about your daily lives without setting things on fire every time someone says shit like that, I don’t know. Seriously, snaps to you.

Yes! This. As soon as I saw that film all I could think is “there’s a man who is not acting as hard as he should be in that role". Definitely just stood up and tried to be himself.

I'll take a punt! I'm sure I could be far wittier and enlightened in the black. Grey cramps my style

They don’t technically have one. I think it’s Windsor, Mountbatton-Windsor or the bit of land they’re named for when they need to give one (registering for websites?) but technically no legal surname.

Which reminds me, does anyone else listen to the opening of “what the heart wants” and only hear “what the fart wants”???

I object to the use of “scurried” here. I refuse to believe anything that big can feasibly “scurry”. Scurrying is for squirrels. Not 5 foot monster creatures.

This. We have a thing called transfer of malice. Murder is murder even if you meant to murder a different person to the one you murdered. How saying “no, I meant to murder THAT guy” is a defense to murder, is beyond me (aware that it’s not that really simple!)

IF you even believe that he thought she was an intruder. Now I’m not saying that I don’t believe him.
