You lucky bastards.

It’s what happens when you have a person who views everything as transactional.

I really do wish I could say I’m shocked that he made his response to a terrible natural disaster about himself, but, well, here we are.

Tacky, bourgeoisie assholes.

“Later, spotting a crowd of people, he said “What a crowd!” and “What a turnout!”

Depends on if National Guardsmen know how to operate boats. More boats are good under people who know how to operate boats in shallow water. That isn’t a common training scenario for the army.

I was planning on trying to get home today, but with this asshole in town, I don’t want to.

Texas has just been hit with one natural disaster. They don’t need another.

I gotta say, it’s awesome seeing all my H=Town peeps on here setting people straight. Like, just don’t mess with me when I’m stuck in my house, going in and out of my closet for tornado warnings, unable to get out of my neighborhood to help my friends who are flooding, wondering if I’m going to flood. I’m like: I have

But. It. Needs. To. Be. Said. Time. And. Again.

Robert E. Lee’s direct descendant is a librul and I hope it gives white supremacists the raging shits.

I grew up in the 1980s. We were Democrats and pro-choice, but we were also extremely devout, straight-laced Christians. My parents did not permit us to watch MTV for various reasons—partly because my mother was a classically-trained musician who considered pop music to be trash, partly because they felt MTV was

It feels good to sit in judgement from a nice, dry place, I guess.

I’m sending you hugs, love, and well wishes from Austin. I’m keeping track of my Houston peeps, and it is tearing me up with worry.

I think she is suggesting that evacuating Houston during Rita was a nightmare and ultimately found to have been unnecessary. Even if you use counterfluence on the highways, you are evacuating 4 million people up I35. At some point, the hurricane overtakes the huge caravan evacuating, and it becomes its own emergency.

Because the flooding is unprecedented and unpredicted, and this nursing home had never flooded before. I get it is horrifying. But this storm is worse than anything we have had since Galveston at the turn of the last century. And that storm, itself, was probably not as bad as this one. They just didn’t have a sea wall

The state and local governments are responsible for making decisions about evacuations and how to advise residents. FEMA handles the federal response. That’s the division of responsibility. Lots of the local governments (with the notable exception of Rockport) were telling people to use their best judgement. Very

Yes, when Houston evacuated for Rita, it was a total cluster fuck. So it’s dicey at best to decide whether or not to evacuate America’s 4th largest city.

This level of flooding was unexpected and unprecedented. The decision was made not to evacuate this nursing home because it had never flooded before and wasn’t expected to. Hindsight is 20/20 of course. So glad they got them out as quickly as they did.

Thanks for being a wonderful example of what a good citizen looks like. In Galveston right now sending Houston some love. Also Abbott is the worst.
