The funny thing is, the Mayor and most of our city officials are Democrats...so people trying to paint their actions as incompetent (which they aren’t so far) to make Republicans look bad are way off the mark.

Yeah. Rita is exactly why Houston officials don’t want to evacuate. More people died in traffic than in this storm so far.

Dickinson isn’t Houston.

Mass evacuations are often counter productive in these situations, if you aren’t in a low lying area likely to get over run by storm surge. If everyone had evacuated the roads would have been a parking lot and then people would have died on flooded highways.

The original pic was shared in a public Facebook post from the daughter of the nursing home owner/manager. She was pleading for help. And what were half of the comments? People insisting that the picture was fake.

The Rock further proves my point that every man looks better with a beard.

I think this is an opportunity for privileged allies to step up and use of the leave time they never get around to using. The organizers also are encouraging people to participate for only part of the march - I expect there will be a lot of one day marchers, and even people who just join for a couple of miles while

I know for a lot of these people will sign up to do a leg of the journey. So if they have Monday off they will walk from Charlottesville to Commonwealth, but maybe not join in for the rest of it.

I live in Texas too. I think we need to own our shit. Yeah several districts are gerrymandered and isn’t one of them the Corpus Christi one? I think Corpus should be democratic but it was gerrymandered not to be....BUT noboy gerrymandered Cruz, Abbott, Paxton, Cornyn and Dan Patrick into existence. There are many

8 Texas congressmen (R, Duh!) voted against hurricane Sandy relief when it hit New Jersey back in ‘12.

I will probably be headed down there in a week for disaster relief. But I want to post this excerpt from Newsweek and Bob Reich (in 2015!), which encapsulates my feelings entirely:

They basically announced they’d rather watch people drown than help them.

Just remember we are victims of horrific gerrymandering that has kept republicans in power.

Surely there is at least one angry billionaire who could secretly bankroll civil suits against Joe Arpaio.

I’m sure Trump would love to give the women of America a hand. Just don’t argue about where the hand will go.

Besides, I always thought that to continue to support something meant that you’ve supported that something in the past. At all. Ever.

Even if you have “miniscule minority,” that’s still MILLIONS of people in a country that has well over a BILLION PEOPLE. So that argument still made no sense.

I am honestly shocked by this. And extremely happy.

“We’e worked really hard to prepare for this hurricane...” except for doing literally anything to stem climate change’s impending annihilation of the gulf coast
