Seriously. I live in Hillsborough! Orange County is 5 to 1 Democrats to Republicans. Not a place that is a hot bed of party tensions usually. It’s solid blue here.

They couldn’t stop him if they wanted to. He pushed himself as the alternative to the Republican “establishment” so they had no power over him. Which also means the party overlords probably weren’t that motivated to help him avoid embarrassment. I suspect they hate his guts and are secretly happy to watch him burn.
