@roxythekiller: Are being purposely obtuse?? I never said relief food had to be beef, I was merely quoting statistics from an article on the rather dire food scarcity situation that currently ongoing in Ethiopia, and it happened to include information on relief efforts.

There's a response to her response up now from one of the editors at Double XX, basically calling her out on her BS and its blame-the-victim harm it causes:

She really knows nothing about roofies, dear god. "There is no evidence in her letter that she was a victim of a sex crime. And I believe that if she had been, or thought she had been, she would have alluded to it in the letter."

@roxythekiller: I could be wrong, but I know beef is historically and culturally a significant part of the Ethiopian diet.

@ardentlilac: From what I've heard, for a lot of public defenders it isn't so much their first choice for a lot, it's a matter of finding a job and trying to stay afloat above their steep law school debts.

@NellMood: Yes! I love that one, and the man in the story had such an interesting perspective based on having two children at such different points in his life, living in different environments.

@EdnasEdibles: Awesome! My sister and I may also have "played blind", where one of us was blindfolded and had to learn lifeskills like Mary did at Blind School with Adam when she first got there.

@dreamweave: Because girls will be confused and lose all interest if a product isn't pink or purple. See: Della.

@EdnasEdibles: This is totally from that episode of Little House on the Prairie where Charles rescues the Wild Boy (who is actually just mute) from the traveling circus/freak show!! And then I think Laura teaches him sign language, though I could be confusing him with a deaf boy she also befriended in another

@BornYesterday: Good for you, and I think you'll find it's easier to meet new (and better) friends now that you've ditched the old. It forces you to be more outgoing, speaking from experience.

@Snowbunny: I think I saw on E! THS (Shut up, I was hungover) that she gained a fairly significant amount of weight (by Hollywood standards) after Clueless. Mainly because she hit, you know, puberty. But it really messed with her head, and she sadly stopped getting auditions, which I'm sure didn't help.

@Pantra: Yes. And also, when a hot A-list actor has a sex scene with a hot female in a movie, (straight) men are supposed to identify with the actor, and be all "Dude, go you, she's hot". I guess some straight guys who are easily threatened might be unable to do that if they knew the actor was gay.

@Intern Katy: Given that poor women here in the States have little to no access to prenatal care, that part of the article sounded just a little bit ethnocentric and condescending. I'm sure it was unintentional, but I think that's what this comment was referring to.

@No Luck: When we were about 8 and 10 years old, my sister and adapted Betsy, Tacy, & Tib as a play, and acted it out for our parents and neighbors (I haven't read the books since then, but remember a dramatic scene with a sledding accident and snow, with the snow represented by a white sheet).

@Meiran: I like that Jamie points out to the residents that they are not a "freak show", they are only a few points above the national average.

@rednrowdy: That's the second comment in this post about the Komen Foundation not wanting us to know about environmental causes of cancer (which I didn't realize was such a secret?? I've known that for a while).

@Flantastic: Cones for Special Kitties is my new favorite expression! And possibly a good name for a band...

@Hooplehead: No, only if people are repressed. I grew up seeing naked adults at beaches in Europe, and friends of my aunt visiting the house with a pool. They weren't my family, they were just adults swimming or changing. Wasn't weird, and I haven't been scarred by it.
