Clearly he was doing it wrong.
Clearly he was doing it wrong.
I didn’t really care for the GotG Holiday Special, it was kind of amusing and all, but it just felt like it kind of cheapened the characters. Plus it used that god-awful Smashing Pumpkins Christmas song. I love me some classic SP, but that song deserves to be locked in a box and dropped into the deepest depths of the…
I liked the MCU Specials. More specials.
I miss Majel’s voice sooo much :(
We’ll be watching later today...
Blackadder’s Christmas Carol is my seasonal must-watch. Rowan Atkinson is now most regarded as silent clown Mr. Bean, but it’s his curmudgeony eloquence as various eras’ Blackadders that’s truly delightful.
Oh, oh, I got another one! My grandpa had a VHS of old Warner Cartoons, and my brother loved this one (Trigger warning: racist caricatures) :
Since 2005, it’s been Doctor Who’s Christmas specials. Even the bad ones! Out of all of the damage Chris Chibnall did to the show, not giving Thirteen a chance to shine on Christmas was his greatest sin.
As a kid, I would watch Muppets Christmas Carol so often during the holidays my family got absolutely fed up with it. This song in particular I still hum all the time:
My personal take is that Black Adam is the movie people are imagining when they say “I hate Marvel movies.”
Personally, I hope he doesn’t come back as Black Adam. It always seemed to me like he made the movie as an homage to HIMSELF, not the character.
The only actual pleasure to come out of Black Adam as been watching Dwayne Johnson and his ego crash and burn so spectacularly.
I think it’s really telling that whenever Gunn talks about the DC Universe he calls it “DCU”, not “DCEU” like it has been called for almost a decade now.
Whenever I think of Black Adam, two words come to mind: vanity project. The Rock never wanted to make a DC movie starring Dwayne Johnson. He just wanted to make a superhero movie where he, The Rock, gets to fight Superman and win. That was the goal, and he wasn’t interested in any other project that deviated from that…
The thing with Black Adam is that it absolutely made me understand why some people hate superhero movies. It was such a souless, loud mess of a film, like it was created by an AI that had been fed what should be in superhero movies but didn’t understand how or why they work.
If this was such a passion project for him maybe next time he should pay attention to the fundamentals such as writing because there was very little good about this film.
Black Adam makes a better bad guy than hero
Not in the first episode, no. Harvey Keitel shows up as the FBI agent from the first movie (I don’t remember if he was in the second movie, because I really did not like the sequel and only watched it once) in order to kick off the plot.
Oh yeah, I’m not talking about tine travel, but playing with the way time works in the movie, like Dunkirk or Interstellar or Inception or Memento - Nolan just love playing with time as a narrative gimmick. Even Batman begins played a lot with the going back and forth between past and present.
This wouldn’t surprise me. I can’t say for certain, but a couple of shots in the trailer to me sort of look like they make take place years apart, at different stages in Oppenheimer’s life. But I may just be reading too much into things, or it could be differences in lighting for some shots.
