I don’t think that’s a recent development.  Even when I was very young in the early 90's I remember being told that people bait drivers like that.  It was around the time that flashing headlights was a gang thing, so even now if someone flashes me I never flash back.

Yep, the only answer is the GTI. I made the same move, from a R56 Cooper S to a Mk6 GTI, and it was a wise decision.
