I am jealous of your interest rate!

I’m a few months off from four digits, but I think I can get there by the end of the year. It will be an exciting day.

The first thing I did when I read the bit about Amy and the $500 tip was math. That tip would be X payments, and making that many payments at the same time would save me Y dollars. They were both nice numbers, and I was briefly jealous of the server.

I am not a server or bartender and I live in an area of the U.S.…

My loans are older, and they predate a lot of the income-based repayment options. (The positive there is that they also came with much more reasonable interest rates.)

As the balance gets closer and closer to zero, making payments has become more gleeful than chore-like.

In other news, I left Direct Student Loans a really big tip this morning. Got a check for my birthday - made an extra payment. According to their interest calculator, I just saved myself like ... $50 over ten years. WHERE’S MY DIRTBAG BULLET POINT?

She’s trying, which I do respect - but there’s definitely a blind spot or two, and a project like this begs for several experts and maybe an actual documentarian to help out.
