I’ve been playing the game since it unlocked late yesterday evening and...just...wow. I’ve traditionally detested roguelikes as a genre, but always knew there’d be an exception out there somewhere. And I think Returnal may be it. Similarly, I can’t stand when a game is made intentionally hard purely for its own sake,

Your argument comes from the notion that a game company tends to create characters based on the people who live in their country. Which isn’t necessarily false.

Bingo, yeah, you got it.

As someone with hundreds of hours racked up in Binding of Isaac, I'm gonna say potentially, yeah.

It doesn’t need to be long if the experience is great, right? I paid the equivalent of about 70 dollars in the 90s for my video games, which were rarely longer than 2 to 3 hours. No regrets. And the other day I went out to eat with the missus and paid about 90 dollars for a 2,5 hour dinner and drinks. Totally worth it.

I’d pay one hundred U.S. dollars to finally have U.N. Squadron in one of these anthologies.

I like the effect, it punishes you for getting too close to dying. But as you say, it doesn’t really belong in all kind of games.

Did I mind it in Last of Us, Doom or Outriders? Nope. Would I mind it in CS, Valorant or Apex? Most definitely.

I always saw it as an attempt at immersion, which admittedly works better for some games than others. I don’t really “like” it, but I also don’t like being on the brink of death, so it seems to work as it’s supposed to.

actually not entirely true, being able to run 10 km comes from aerobic exercise while the situps come from anaerobic exercise. I’ve known track runners who could run 20 km a day but would likely struggle with doing 100 good sit ups in one sitting because they simply do not focus on the muscle mass as it can actually

i feel like he could have just done the 10k a day and got the same results

Not sure I would call that buff? Seems like he just lost a ton of weight instead.

I had roomates that had a bunch of rock band stuff and I absolutely loved using the drum set. The skill actually carries over quite well for a real drum set as far as timing and coordination goes (not so much for striking velocity and where you hit). Good times

Can we reserve phrases like “the dumbest shit ever” for dumber shit than this? Like, this is some “EA is the worst company in America” level hyperbole. Like, it’s a fucking demo.

If this were true there would be absolutely no possibility for a healthy and competitive speedrun scene, which is not the case. Precision and telegraphing enemy patterns is not only 100% possible but at the entire core of Hollow Knight. I mean people can and regularly do entire boss runs without ever being hit (unless

Hornet is a fight that I think most people find at least a little difficult because she’s quick and mobile in a game that has not made you deal with that yet while you’re still learning the ropes. I recall dying upwards of 20 times on my first playthrough.

How do you explain dead pixels then, eh? Checkmate.

Hey have you thought about relaxing and not being weird about video games online?

It’s really strange that you describe this as a design misstep. It’s ok to simply not be very good at a game. Your failure doesn’t mean the game’s design is bad.

The dark souls comparison always raised my eyebrow. It’s tougher than your average platformer, but I played HK right after Sekiro and the difference in difficulty was night and day. I was just really thorough about exploration and grinding a little for charms. The only boss before the late game that gave me a lot of

Give up, Riley. I think Hollow Knight isn’t for you, and that’s OK! No judgment. But if beating Hornet left a bad taste in your mouth, you’re not going to enjoy the game. I’m not even saying “git gud”. It took me a few tries to beat Hornet too, and some bosses took me many more tries! But if it’s not fun for you, then
