1. That part is actually pretty mundane and plausible. Epstein was already known as a math whiz. He got a job teaching at a fancy private school (from Bill Barr’s father, no less). One of his students’ father was a Wall Street guy. He gives him a test, he aces it, he sets him up as a trader.
