This seems like pretty direct evidence that KU wasn’t offering enough.

You’ve obviously never been to Lawrence.

Wrap your head around the privilege it takes to get mad and stop talking to your parents because they paid $250,000 just to get you into the university you wanted.

Yes, necessarily. Again, they will have that rallying cry no matter what. Your belief that if Democrats just hold really still and don’t make any noise, a bunch of them will forget to vote is based on nothing but wishful thinking.

They will always have something stirring them up. Trump and Republicans will always paint themselves as victims, no matter what actually happens.

So why is Trump’s base being included in the equation at all?

But you’re literally arguing against playing the game by abandoning impeachment. You’re handing a massive victory to Trump on the mere threat that his base will be agitated if we don’t.

This isn’t about Trump’s base. That’s the whole point. Trump’s base is going to be riled up no matter what the Democrats do or don’t do. Refusing to at least attempt to hold criminals accountable just because the Republican death cult will get mad about it is far worse than attempting to do the right thing and failing

If he actually manages to win a second term after this shitshow of a first, there’s no way in hell he’ll be impeached. Reelection would be the ultimate exoneration, and after that there’s no reason for him or any other Republican to respect any of our laws.

If we consider removal from office the only possible thing to be gained by pursuing impeachment, then we’ve already lost. What you’ve described is a government system that is totally incapable of dealing with a criminal president.

Thank you. The “We can’t impeach, it’ll energize his base!” crowd never seems to even consider the fact that if Democrats don’t move to impeach, everything they allegedly fear is much more likely to come true and Trump will appear even more vindicated.

That’s what impeachment is.

Then Democrats can blast the living hell out of Mitch and Senate Republicans for protecting their criminal president heading into the elections. Make them play defense for once.

But his base already feels that way. That’s the status quo no matter what Democrats do. Basing our actions on what the redhat base will do is pointless and the true sure way to lose.

Impeachment is about so much more than merely removing Trump from office. And impeachment proceedings involve investigations.

Clinton wasn’t popular because he survived an impeachment trial, he was popular because he was a functional moderate president that held office during a boom economy and because most people didn’t think our president should lose his job for lying about an extramarital affair.

I don’t get it -- are Democrats and otherwise decent people required to remain silent in your forecast of how this plays out?

Exactly. It’s like we learned nothing from the Benghazi and Email nonsense. The point was never to actually land a legal punch on Hillary, it was to tar her reputation with the base and with the “moderate independents” that barely pay attention but catch a few snippets of politics on the news here and there and still

If the Senate Republicans refuse to impeach a criminal president — and they definitely will refuse to do that — then Democrats have to roll up their sleeves and actually get dirty and win the damn political battle for the 65% of the country that isn’t batshit evil.

Taking it at face value also implies that it couldn’t change with some politicking.
