Ok. I know the phenomenon you’re talking about, and I know it exists. Those women seem to be using their already meager drives (they would naturally be thin anyways) as a stepping stone to achieve that extra bit of social capital that is already in their reach.

This is what people report. People also report sleeping less than 6 hours a night regularly. But when you put those same people in a lab and ask them to maintain that sleep schedule they can’t without passing out during the day, or developing psychosis. Same with sex. People report vastly more sexual partners, and

This is pseudoscientific bs.

“To say that dieting is an antiquated notion is absurd, it is literally a multi billion dollar industry raking in more profits by the year.”

Most people’s habits are expressions of their drives. Giving up sugar (or any one luxury) is impressive but not really the same as defying the drive to eat a certain amount of calories and fat.

Ok. Well, first of all I’m talking about Liz Lemon. NOT Tina Fey. Liz Lemon is portrayed run around all day and THEN wolfing down a sandwich at lunch and a burger at dinner. Or one of the other. That’s realistic.

“I’ve realized recently that my friends who I’ve always thought to be just naturally skinny actually eats way less than I do.”

The idea that there are “health” foods is what’s laughable. If what you need is a bunch of carbohydrates, butter and sugar then waffles are healthy.

“Most people who have always been skinny are people who work out, eat a balanced diet, and control their portions, as someone who’s over thirty you should know that the older you get there’s less and less people who can eat a lot of calories and a lot of carbs and stay really skinny are fewer and fewer.”

Ok. Let’s clarify something here. Eating disorders aren’t diets.

I guess I just don’t see it as a trope. Because most thin women do eat “terrible” diets, if by terrible diets you mean franks and waffles.

“Abstinence only education doesn’t work because there are people out there who won’t be able to manage abstaining but that doesn’t mean that everybody is just fucking each other whenever and where ever they can get some.”

“I also think you’re coming from a very privileged position if you think that literally only fat people diet.”

Here’s my thing though: When people complain about media representations of thinness, as is happening on this site right now, the complaint always seems to be based, in part, on the premise that the media is covering up the “hard work” or at least the “sacrifice” that it takes to be thin. But I do not believe that

I eat like that and am 120 - 125 lb. at any given moment. But I only eat one meal a day. (And two snacks.) I always assumed that Liz Lemon (for example) was the same, because of her schedule. In my case, I often just sleep instead of eating breakfast and then have a coffee and walk my dog instead of eating lunch. I’m

I have a Phd and I misuse affect and effect all the time. I’ve never had an article not get published because I hit one vowel instead of the other on my keyboard. Are you sure you aren’t being treated like shit because you’re pedantic?

Remember kids, if you have black skin and/or secondary sexual characteristics (i.e. breasts) adults can’t tell that you’re children.

The issue that we’re talking about here is police departments dispersing an archaic, medieval form of punishment - public shaming - completely outside of the law. These people were never sentenced to be shamed. Public shaming is actually antithetical to the spirit of our legal code and isn’t even a punishment we

“This photo is an entry into a growing genre of digital content: police departments and other law enforcement authorities sharing stories from the field—propagandistic parables that are often intended to become fodder for the right-wing viral content machine, perceived as a necessary antidote to the liberal, anti-cop

How nice of you to clarify what happens in “Asia.” The facts are what they are. TB rates in CA have increased. They’ve stayed roughly the same in non-immigrant populations. And they’ve increased in Asian and Latin American immigrant populations. Because the demographics of those populations have shifted. There isn’t
