great write up and I agree with everything you said except that I think the main motivation behind the ecoboost exercise is not marketing but the EPA. FCA, GM, and Ford are all trying despereatly to figure out how to hit 54.5 MPG by 2025 and are doing everything (including gaming the EPA test cycle) to get there.

And I, for the record, genuinely like the sales number comparisons you do.

Because GM corporate decided to reenter the growing heavy duty market again. Just because you abandon a segment doesn’t mean you can’t reenter it.

Hino seems to be doing a good job of gaining market share. I’d like to see GM beat Toyota at their game.
