I think they’re crazy, and I think she is crazy. Like, real crazy, not “this is crazy.”

read the other comments, I am not the only one who came to this conclusion.

you should take a careful read, she went out of her way to interview as many people in support of the porn industry and how wonderful it is for women.

I didn’t mean it in a flippant way. capitalism is exploitative and yes, non-sex industries can exploit their workers in horrible ways. I was disagreeing with the tone of this article that there is no exploitation of workers in the porn industry, of course there is.

It’s this very extreme version of third-wave you-go-girl “empowerment” thinking that really dismisses all of the subtleties of virtually everything (and completely ignores class and race).

One does not need to be anti-porn (much less anti-sex, which is one of the reasons why the phrase “sex positive feminist” grinds my

Well, I would agree, but in pornography theres a whole market of faux-rape, and even sites called 18 and abused, exploited teens, etc. So yeah, abuse had become the selling point.

I think I’m also much more second wave at the mature age of 34. I care less about female empowerment and more about our rights as women, workers etc.

I did. juliarams opinion is supported by the article. Are you claiming that the article doesn’t imply this?

I feel like jezebel can not be objective on porn because they have made their views really clear.

Yeah, it makes me fond of the old days, when you’d see “user x has been warned” or “this comment has been moved to #no”.

At least you didn’t get banned without warning. They’ve done that to me twice since last summer. You end of commenting as usual, oblivious to the fact that your posts don’t go through, until you realize there’s a reason nobody seems to like your comments...

Thank you for this post. Sex-positivism and trying to fix the porn industry are not mutually exclusive.

Somewhere around 2011/2012 it got to where if you ever said anything critical of porn, you were deemed “sex-negative” and outdated. I gave up arguing.

Apparently Erin Gloria Ryan didn’t like my comment so she put me back in the greys. The greys which were created for trolls not daily commenters that disagree with you on one issue.

I don’t even bother discussing or really taking their porn articles seriously. They’re so third-wave, over the top, “anything critical of porn is sex-negativity” that there’s really just no point in rebutting. I love Jezebel, but our porn views will always disagree!

And I see I am back in the greys because I didn’t agree with your editorial opinion. Lovely.

Yes I did. The tone was quite clear.

Thank you.

I feel like the author would have believed the CEO of Walmart had she asked him if they exploited workers.

This position of this article seems to be to really question if there are exploitative practices in the sex industry. THERE ARE EXPLOITATIVE PRACTICES IN ALL INDUSTRIES. One can be sex positive, pro-porn and still believe that porn actors and actresses can be treated really bad. Do you believe the porn industry is
