Part of the story is mental instability from encounters with the unexplainable (almost Lovecraftian) which I felt the book was structured to sort of mimic and it did well. It just felt unsettling and the “meaning” was always justttttttt out of grasp.
I loved it. Just started the second one now.
Alongside Blindsight by Peter Watts (though for different reasons), this is maybe my favorite science fiction of the last decade. I thought the actual writing is incredible, as opposed to so many books with decent ideas and substandard writing of language that populate sci-fi these days, including quite a lot of stuff…
There is resolution of a sort. You get an explanation of what’s going on and character arcs reach their. It isn’t exactly the kind of story that wraps everything up in a nice neat bow, but there is a sense of completion at the end. It may be more an emotional completion than a plotted one, but it’s there.
The thing I loved most about Annhilation was that- beyond the mystery and its underlying mythology, it’s ultimately about a married couple, and the tragedy of the secrets they kept from one another.
The resolutions come from reading each story unfortunately so if you did not like the first one I doubt you will read the others.
Sometimes (more often than not, actually) simple life forms are just steps on the ladder towards more simple life forms. Or even towards simpler life forms. Evolution isn’t progressive, it just looks that way.
So many questions from you, but so few answers.
Those are not equally likely because you are a know-nothing with your fingers in your ears and eyes closed shut.
Thank you so much for this comment. This show as just plain old BAD. The acting, the writing, the dialogue, the plot...all awful! Some may see all the plot holes and mysteries and think “man, this show sure is smart and deep” - but no, it’s just really really bad.
I can absolutely hate this show. This show makes me angry that I wasted my time. There are multitudes to why this show has driven me up the wall in a furvor as of late after finishing it. As the show progressed, more and more of it’s pretty candy coated shell was chipped away to reveal the terrible shit at its center.
Get the fuck out of here with your “the left”.
I’m not sure you know what “deplorable” means, especially in the context of this specific election.
THANK YOU. Everyone keeps saying she lost because she wasn’t likeable and the dems should have picked bernie. This proves it was not a referendum on economics. It was a referendum on race and otherness. A jew would never have won if you just search “jews” on twitter. Vile shit.
I love when the Post publishes absolute gibberish. If the voters reject him, he is not a “hugely popular candidate.”
She deserves so much more...she needs to be covered like John Oliver.
I wish that organizations would respond more tongue-and-cheek to these things. ex:
Joe Hill is really a great writer. Although I really want them to make a NOS4A2 adaptation or a Locke & Key adaptation first.
Hopefully “new technology” doesn’t mean “vertical filming on an iPhone.”
I still remember my idea for a Blair Witch sequel, which would have infuriated everyone who watched it but I have a certain affection for the notion. It riffed on all the rumors that the actors really died and the producers really found their footage (remember that?), and the whole thing was a police procedural where…
