You couldn’t make ‘Blazing Saddles’ today. I checked, everyone’s busy, and quite rightly pointed out that one day’s notice is not nearly enough time to organise shooting a film.

Happiness was so fucking terrible, though. Not because it was transgressive--in fact, the transgression seems to convince people it must be genius. It’s just got complete contempt for its characters, horribly awkward dialog and acting, and zero recognizable human behavior.

The thing is that Happiness is a good movie that actually interrogates its transgressive elements with a billion times more curiosity and wit than The Idol, whose whole deal seems to be, “What if the only way to be successful is to sell your soul?”

Thing is I think Indiana Jones did exactly what it was trying to do beautifully and I wouldn’t correlate these numbers with the quality of the film if you’re the right audience for it.
