A typical Colt AR-15 is several hundred dollars more than most of the other manufacturers. I am salary, there are weeks I work 70 - 80 hours (granted few and far between but when I do they suck) but also have weeks where its so quiet I may be at the office for 45 hours but only working 10 or 15. Plus on the long weeks usually take a day or two off as comp time the next week.
