Bill Weld, former Republican governor of Massachusetts, has announced he was forming an exploratory committee...   That should be a slam dunk choice if the party had any logic left in it - he could EASILY win election over a more left wing Democrat.  I mean, he’d have the (R) after his name, but was centrist enough

And hell, by adding all the driver assist features as standard, they improved its competitiveness this year without significant changes.

I’d give the new Camry marks over the Fusion on interior materials, but my god, that thing is a gutless wonder that drives like crap in comparison to the Fusion.

Reliability numbers on it are not good.

The Europeans, meanwhile, argue that U.S. aviation uses government research contract grants from the Department of Defense and NASA. They also get federal, state and local tax breaks.

The problem, though, is that the people that show up for those debates - well, you’re looking at the audience being people with brains - as opposed to much of the party.

The team against Trump was Jeff Flake and Bret Stephens.  For Trump were Kris Kobach and Liz Peek.  The latter two were consistently dishonest and

So I listen to podcasts from “Intelligence Squared US Debates” - and they recently had one with two teams of Republicans debating whether or not the GOP should nominate Trump or someone else in 2020.

One of the pro-Trump debaters referred to him as “honest”.

I’ve never heard the audience during one of these laugh at

There’s nothing “terrible” about the Fusion. On the contrary, its remarkably competitive despite being due for a redesign. A standard redesign and it easily could have been back at the top of its class, rather than just mid-pack.

That’s an insufficient standard, as it doesn’t cover DC Fast Charge

We have CHAdeMO and SAE Combo CCS - the auto industry needs to pick one and standardize on it.

Personally, I think the key for the other companies beating back Tesla is simple - standardize on a single charging system design, and cooperatively put out a network that beats Tesla’s supercharging system.   They’ll struggle to compete if you have to rely on finding a specific charger that works on a single make -

You need to shop more for a roof. Tesla’s quote to me was $77,100 for their roof. That compares to $7500 for an asphalt roof plus $28,000 for a solar PV system. That puts the Tesla roof at astronomically more expensive and a very bad financial decision. Save the money, invest wisely, and you can buy a next-gen system

GM’s battery costs for the Volt were pretty much on-par with Tesla, FWIW - no more than a few months behind.

A roof that’s nearly indestructible AND provides zero emission power is a slam fucking dunk

One of my last flights had a security line that opened at 4:45 for a 4:53 boarding.  That was cutting it close.

But if we improved mass transit, he wouldn’t necessarily be driving then...

traffic in NY still stinks even at 10 pm or 4 am.  Just not nearly as bad as other times of the day.

According to wiki, 23% of all workers in NYC drive by themselves to get to work. Granted, that includes areas not covered by these proposed charges, but that’s still almost 1 million vehicles a day driving in and out of the city.

I’d wager that for a large number, the problem is simply a matter of timing and

Your roads are subsidized by people riding the subway, because the city and state use income and sales taxes to pay for their maintenance, repair, and expansion.

The only efficient solution in a large city like NY is to boost mass transit as much as possible - you can’t physically cram enough lanes to handle the

WTH didn’t you use mass transit?

A 45 mile commute from Long Island to Battery City would have put you departing from somewhere roughly Huntington to Lindenhurst. The Port Jefferson, Ronkonkoma, and Montauk lines all run out that far. Commute times are about equal to good traffic in NYC (ie, 1.5 hr or so), and far more

So get out of the car and ride mass transit.  NY has an extensive mass transit network.

Congestion charges are the ONLY proven way to actually reduce congestion and air quality.

Increase mass transit funding without congestion charges? You increase usage of mass transit, which temporarily reduces congestion, only to have more people move as they can now tolerate the commute, which drives congestion back

What’s wrong with the console height in this Escape? Looks about right to me.

Tall consoles are a pain in the ass. They unnecessarily confine the driver making the vehicle feel small - and if you’re tall, they can actually make the vehicle unusable.

I had a CX-9 as a loaner awhile back.  It’s enormous center console
