That’s like the Shell station near my office. $3.96 today while the BP just down the road is $2.85. Guess which one is right at the highway exit?

I don’t think it would even be possible for a single fill-up to cost 24% the purchase price of the car in the US, even at $8 per gallon, given current car prices. My 16 year old Ford Fusion has a blue book value significantly (30%!!!!) higher today than it did when I bought it when it was 10 years old, even though…
Meh, he’ll just have the company issue him new shares to make up for it.
You assume they’ll charge retail rates for electricity? As it is right now, they often have their own filling station but charge people $10 per gallon if they have to refill or $4+ per gallon if they prepay (when gas is under $2). It might cost $11 to fill up from empty at home, but I’d bet they still charge people…
Not sure its such a great winning decision yet. Rental companies generally dump cars before they have any significant maintenance costs anyway. The way this COULD be ok is if the resale value holds up better than the Altimas and Sonatas they were renting.
I’ve been surprised to see rental companies going more upscale over the years. Last couple times I rented, I didn’t get a base trim model even once. Had a Camry that was mediocre, but more so from the fact that the transmission was god-awful and the thing occasionally completely refused to accelerate (I am NOT a speed…
“Would you like to prepay for electricity, or have us charge you $652 per kWh when you return the vehicle?”
One of the very first things I had to do when working as an intern in engineering at Ford was to rebuild a V8. Never hesitated to pick up a wrench and work on my own car since, and never had a repair of my own go bad (can’t say the same for things I’ve farmed out to mechanics)
Have they fixed battery life issues? I’m not talking about needing a recharge in the middle of the lawn (I could always get a second battery) - but rather, last time I looked at them, the complaints were pretty much constant that batteries didn’t last more than a year or two, and replacement cost as much as a good gas…
Jack Welch is almost the epitome of a failed CEO.
I know, MBA schools still love him. GE, though, is still paying the price. They took a nearly $10 billion charge against earnings just 3 years ago to write off massive losses from long term care contracts Welch signed onto decades before. These losses keep coming up…
That is certainly a reason given by many anti-union groups to workers to try to prevent unionization.
And yes, laws protecting workers are generally better than they were in the times of peak union power; however, in many places those laws have been weakening, and most everywhere across the country enforcing those laws…
You know how Mazda could sell a ton more of these and win the argument that people don’t need a huge range and all that extra battery mass?
Offer a deal for anyone that buys one that they can get a low-cost or free ICE/hybrid loaner for x days per year for those times when they need a longer range.
It’s kind of like all…
Well, if you do solar panels right, even your installer will tell you the first thing you need to do is cut consumption - that’s the best rate of return you’ll get.
We did that. Spent a couple hundred on improved insulation, switched out all lighting for LED at the cost of a couple hundred at most, boosted efficiency…
Pretty accurate description of any vaccine there.. none are a shield, though some people seem to think they are. The best ones are good enough to prevent any symptoms in about 98-99% of people and prevent them from ever being contagious. But none are perfect... and if the pathogen doesn’t mutate much (measles,…
Interesting.
I had shot #1 in early november last year (clinical trial). Headache, fatigue, weird aches and pains for a day.
I had shot #2 in early december last year. No noticeable side effects
I had shot #3 (different brand/type) last week. Sore arm, nothing more.
Shot #4 is coming up in a few weeks. Wonder what it will…
You REALLY need to read up on Simpson’s Paradox and understand some basic math.
About 80% of Israeli adults are vaccinated, but they only account for 60% of hospitalizations. That implies a 62.5% reduction in rates of hospitalization. How? Imagine n adults, with a vaccination rate of V. If R is the basic rate of…
Alberta is bad? Alberta’s current case rate, 40 cases per 100k people per day, is better than ALL of the following states:
Alaska (155.8)
Wyoming (81.5)
North Dakota (80.9)
Montana (79.9)
West Virginia (78.9)
Idaho (75)
Kentucky (70.5)
South Carolina (52.1)
Wisconsin (50)
Ohio (48.6)
Delaware (46.9)
Tennessee (45.7)
Maine (45.5)
Iow…
Well, Ontario’s current case rates are about 1/9th those of Ohio’s. So count your blessings... :) We also have about 20% more deaths per day in Ohio alone as Canada has in your entire nation.
You may not think Ontario’s done particularly well, but you look pretty good right now compared to your neighbors across the…
Hey now...
Almost everyone I met in Quebec was very, very nice.
I’ve been considering a trip into Canada (Ontario, specifically) here. I can’t blame them for being cautious. I’d be going into pretty much the hottest of the hotspots in Ontario, where they’re averaging about 7 cases per 100k people per day (the entire province is averaging about 5 cases per 100k per day).
The state…
