Well “collection” is probably overstated. I have one nice car and then two old toys that didn’t cost much. I love ‘em though!

I don’t live with them. You can see in the pic that his car has PA tags and mine has DC tags. I do visit them though — usually for some car related fun with my dad. I have my own house and my own car collection. It’s nice to have a shared hobby though especially as a grown-up.
Yeah, my mom thinks it's embarassing but whatever — he likes it. I think it's cool!
Thanks!
Thanks! I looked at the wagon for a while but it would mean dropping my favorite wagon ever (see picture)!
It really is! Here are some shots from a track day visit (watching — not tracking that day!).
I REALLY liked the S4 for him and the supercharged power delivery is awesome. The S60 isn’t as fast in that first 500 RPM. That said, the S60 feels lighter on it’s feet and turn in seemed a little better. It also has a cool “uniqueness” that's hard to match and after I drove both back to back I really fell for the…
It’s a little bit of both. The S60 is roughly the size of my E46 wagon, so a few inches longer than the 2 series. Interestingly the 2 has a very similar wheelbase to the S60, but more overhang front and back.
Yeah. He's never bought me a car. I'm 26 and my cars are mine alone. Same with him. Only thing he passed down is the enthusiast gene!
My dad has the S60 R-Design Polestar. I wasn’t convinced at first but then I drove it. It’s an awesome car and is vastly underrated. It’s quick, well-appointed, and is more fun to drive than the S4 he was looking at. Here it is with my M235i for a size comparion. It’s actually a tidy size and a great performer. I…
I like to think that Kermit drives a Volvo wagon.
That's EXACTLY what I thought when I saw this.
I'm a long roof fan myself and actually DD a wagon (E46 325iT), but for some reason the Mazda6 wagon never did it for me. I think the lines work better on the hatch. Again, just my personal opinion on style!
It's a much wider opening. Easier to get things in and out of and you don't need to have as boxy of a body style just for a few extra inches of space. It's a great compromise and it comes with awesome fastback looks!
A little extra power (not the full mazdaspeed treatment) wouldn’t require that much. We’re not talking huge amounts of power here. Also a brace wouldn’t be the end of the world — I’ve seen plenty where the seats can still fold.
True — but only in the sedan body. The prettier and practical hatch never got that drivetrain.
Given that this ‘87 is the spiritual ancestor of this fine beast, you’d have thought Mazda would have given us a turbo for the best-looking body style (and arguably best overall generation) of this storied line. Instead we got an energetic if slightly underpowered 2.3 liter 4 and a very heavy (so much that it upset…
It's funny but my e30 doesn't have one either. Takes some getting used to!
Sorry about your friend, but you get shitty examples of cars from every brand. The BMWs that are still on the road are those (unsurprisingly) that have been well-maintained. I can’t argue that they’re as easy as Toyotas to keep running or abuse, but they’re also not typically crap leaving the factory.
Only time will tell I guess! That's the reason I pointed out that I have BMWs from three generations. It'll make for an interesting comparison.
