This is such a shitty take. Basically crapcan econo boxes and the usual “worst of” suspects like the Prowler with provocative nonsense thrown in. The 964, 993, and F1 are legitimate legends and the view expressed here on each is just downright wrong.

Can’t believe no E46 mention I’m quite partial to mine and think they’re the best looking wagon ever made.

Mine was an ‘04 S60R with the M66 manual. Bought it very well-maintained for a relative song. Put lots into it (failed BCM, among other things) but thought it was a fun, underappreciated car. Sold it when I bought my Polestar.

I still miss my P2 Volvo. Nice cars.

    2018 S60 Polestar

It’s the slowest of my three cars but it never fails to make me smile even when I’m just moving it in the garage. I’ve had an E30, have an a F80 M3 comp 6 sp, and have owned other BMWs but I don’t think they’ve ever made anything better (at least to me) than the E46. I’ll never sell mine.

Lots of love for this. Fellow German wagon owner on the (potholed) streets of DC.

When is the Polestar version coming? I have an S60R and an M3 and would sign that dotted line so fast!

Peak BMW for sure. These are rapidly appreciating and becoming more rare. Dinan isn’t some half-assed mod either. I have a Dinan E46 touring and it feels basically OEM+ and, while not cheap per se, was a great value.

Sort of — they had one in the US for the first gen which ended with the ‘08 model year. My dad drove one back then. Nice car and very practical!

They made one in the first generation. Very few people bought it, sadly.

My favorite band — and car guys to boot. Read the liner notes and Fagen mentions rotary sports cars. He would DEFINITELY have an RX-7...quirky is as quirky does. Amazing perfection both musically and sonically from these guys and the most wry and sardonic wit out there. Amazing.

EVERY DAMN TIME. I want one so bad. I have a modded/Dinan E46 wagon and an F80 M3 and this would make me sell both.

Wow! Reminds me of a Saab 9-3 from the 90s!

About the same price as that E46 M3 if the mileage is low enough! ;)

My dad bought a first-gen 6 after the auto press went crazy for it. I thought the interior was sub-par but you could tell they benchmarked the contemporary 3 series in terms of driving dynamics. Hell, even the engines were similar (2.3 vs 2.5 and both top end options were 3.0 sixes). It was a great and very

I hate to say this but a low-option BMW these days isn’t some sweet, beautiful E46. It’s the bland electric-steering F30 with a four-cylinder turbo making less power than this Mazda and with a worse interior.

I sat in one at the Mazda dealer this weekend while my girlfriend’s CX-5 was in for service. I didn’t get to drive it but I’ll tell you one thing: that interior is LEGIT. I got back into my M3 (with the extended leather to boot) and almost felt like I’d stepped down a notch from the Mazda. Yeah, it’s not quite as

This is the automotive equivalent of Donald Trump.

I don’t really know where I stand on this question. On one hand, I tend to swap cars out pretty frequently and on the other hand, I’m always looking for cars to add to the “permanent collection.”
