I know exactly one person who drives a Land Cruiser. His name is Robert, and he’s an engineer from Seattle. We met because we hired the same architect to design our houses.

Anyone who’s childhood bedroom wall featured a poster of this:

ORRRRR

Plus who hates power locks and back up cameras?

I can appreciate that many people don’t want to pay *extra* for power windows, locks, and blueteeth, but the fact is that that’s what a standard car comes with these days. And unless you’re trying to get bent over buying a Wrangler, you’ll get those plus AC for the base price of the vehicle.

The Silverado GMT800 mid-cycle refresh for one.

2001 Honda Civic. Cost-cutting compromise after cost-cutting compromise - the loss of the signature A-arm front especially hurt - wrapped in blander-for-your-safety styling capped with Mitsubishi taillights. This is where the magic started to fade.

I own a base model and at no point have I been tempted to upgrade to an S. Sure, it’s faster, but the base model is so good that it never seems worth the price bump to go to the S. I don’t blame anyone for shelling out for the S, but to me I get so much out of the base that I never feel like I’m missing out enough to

I used to race riding mowers, which was just as batshit insane. I had to stop because we kept on getting better and better at building the machines  to a point where they were getting to be so fast that some were getting seriously injured in wrecks. The tiny little town we raced in had a motion sensor speed indicator

The issue that has been overblown on the internet and is not that common as you may think? Yes, they had the issue. If it has 100+ thousand miles it should not be a problem even if it has not been replaced. It affects more garage queen cars.

Me, sitting in my literal beige 4-cylinder Camry: “Hmm...tisk...not an S, huh?”

Nice price, for sure.  And I’m sure it’s genuinely 10x better than anything I’ve ever had.  But...knowing there are “S” models out there that I didn’t reach for would eat at me.

They make pretty good rock crawlers!

This is what happens when all the houses in a country are equipped with hot and cold running vodka

...mounted rather inelegantly...

I too voted “some dice”. It’s cheaper than a comp FJ Cruiser, extra money to spend on off-road goodies.

Can you image pre-owned 4Runner prices? Shit, I just got a 2017 Corolla SE and fuck, it was basically brand new MSRP lol. Same with Prius, Camry and especially the goddamn 4Runners!!!

2021 Tacoma $38,950

Smaller towns still have them, a legacy of when the Big 3 were the only game in town.

But why, if you’re going to be stuck in your car for hours, why not a Buick.

“Given the other things that I have going on in my life, will I rebuild my Jeep Cherokee’s original 4.0-liter engine in the next two years?” Also, “Would it be easy to sell this engine for a reasonable amount on Craigslist?”
