I’ve got an F30 335i and it’s really finnicky - you have to shift at the right speed, 1 and second are useless after 15mph but 3rd is geared too tall. I’ve never driven an older car but would love something from the 80s/90s for the reasons you described - they seem alot easier to drive

The thing I take away from these is how quickly they shift. I take my time to ensure a smooth shift, try and rev match in traffic, etc. But these guys just know exactly when to shift and do it. I need to get an older, slower car to practice clutch control at legal speeds

Okay so let me get this straight - they took a detuned 2 liter turbo, added a few hundred extra pounds, and then came up with a system output 3 horsepower more than the conventional 330i, for about a 10%-15% price premium. Nice.
